One of the key words that keeps popping up throughout my time in Wales is DISCOVERY.
As an author and avid writer, I pay attention to the consistent occurrence of specific words over a sustained period of time. This has happened through many different ways. Whether in songs, on television, or through Scripture and other reading; there is usually a link between the words and something that The Lord is trying to teach me.
In the seven months since I landed in Wales, every day has held new and exciting discoveries. New foods, people, places, surroundings, and experiences have become a dominant fixture in my daily life. Each day holds challenges that are equal (and sometimes not-so-equal) parts exciting, daunting, and exhausting. Yet, I can definitively say that The Lord is in it.
One recent introduction of the word into my life is the television series, “Star Trek: DISCOVERY.” Growing up, I was always a fan of Star Trek. I loved the idea of intrepid explorers venturing forth into the world with boldness, bravery, and wit.
This newest installment focuses on the foundations of the interconnected Star Trek universe, becoming a high-budget origin story that feels quite cinematic at times. I discovered this series (see what I did there?) by “accident,” because in America, a monthly subscription is needed to the CBS app, which I do not have. But in Europe, you can catch new episodes each week on Netflix! (Three cheers for foreign Netflix!)
Another interesting introduction of the word into my everyday life came to me through my new (to me) guitar. I could not afford to move here with a guitar, but God graciously provided me with one through a friend that is far better than I could have hoped for.
The model of this guitar is a (you guessed it) DISCOVERY! It has already brought me so much joy, and I expect that there will be many more moments of pouring my heart out to The Lord through its strings.
I have also discovered:
-Reese’s Peanut Butter DONUTS at Krispy Kreme and Peanut Butter Kit Kat bars! (Yum!)
-That the source of all the world’s problems is America (According to one of our 14-year-old regular youth group attenders) because “Tupac had beef with Biggie Smalls. Biggie had beef with Ice Cube, and Ice Cube had beef with Snoop Dogg!” (I couldn’t stop laughing, either.)
-The many differences between Rugby and (American) Football.
-The power of the beautiful scenery to rejuvenate me.
-Constant activity is not the sole indicator of fruitfulness.
-Perpetual pausing is not the sole indicator of rest.
As I continue this journey of DISCOVERY, I am uncovering more about Who He is, who I am, and what He made for me to accomplish. I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
P.S. One final DISCOVERY I have made is that you “have not because you ask not.” (James 4:2)
So, prepare for me to ask!
I am in need of $3,900 to finish the final three months of my journey and return to America this Fall.
Will you stand with me as I seek to fulfill the purposes of God in this precious nation?
